The Oral Tradition Initiative is established through close collaborations between a group of scholars from around the globe and local communities across the Tibetan and Himalayan regions. Partnering with local knowledge holders and cultural bearers, we develop community-led projects to document, safeguard, and revitalize their verbal arts through digital collections, educational programs, and collaborative research.
 
We highlight the fluid nature of oral traditions, celebrating their diverse versions, performances, and interpretations. We emphasize the importance of collaboration between local communities and academia in the creation of knowledge and its ethical implementation to support linguistic and cultural resurgence. We explore the meanings of authorship, ownership, and authority over traditional knowledge in Asian contexts.

我们的工作突显不同口述传统的流动性，拥抱其版本、表演与解读的多样性。针对知识产出及其在语言与文化复兴中的实践，我们强调当地社区与学界合作的重要性。同时，我们探索关乎传统知识的著作权、所有权和自主权在亚洲语境中的多重意涵。
